Upon failing chemistry in my mid year examinations when I was in secondary 3, I realised my chemistry needed desperate and immediate help as there was not much time left before my Os. This resulted in me asking multiple seniors for their help and advice to understand the multitude of unique concepts, but I just could not understand anything due to my weak foundation in the subject. After trying to improve my understanding of chemistry by myself for a few more months, I was honestly about to give up on the subject. It was then when one of my seniors introduced me to Wilson in Ace Brainery. Unwillingly, I decided to try out a lesson in his class and within that 2 hour lesson, I got a better understanding of a topic which I had been struggling on and learnt some things to look out for in the topic. This rapid improvement convinced me that my chemistry still had some hope despite it being my worst subject at the time, so i decided to continue on with the class.
Based on my experience in the class, I feel that Wilson’s teaching style is very different from any teacher that has taught me before. He involves everyone in the class without fail when teaching and the notes he gives are very concise and easy to understand. Whenever someone raises a question in or out of class, he will always respond as soon as he can and ensure they understand his explanation. Furthermore, I truly believe he is a very passionate teacher as he constantly goes the extra mile for the class. Some examples of this is how he would let students come 30 minutes before the class starts if they wanted to clarify anything with him in person and how he would host the lesson online and in person at the same time after the pandemic quarantine; this allowed students to attend the lesson at home if they could not attend it in person. Also, around the start of 2020, he noticed that I was quite a few topics behind the class since I joined rather late compared to the rest, so he decided to free up some of his own time to personally come down and give me extra tuition at my place for a few weeks. This allowed me to catch up to the class and not be completely lost when he goes through new topics.
I genuinely believe that I would not have been able to turn my F9 grade at the start of 2020 to an A1 grade for O levels without Wilson’s guidance. I am really grateful for his help and if anyone is struggling with chemistry, I would definitely recommend them to join Wilson’s class.
