GCE 'O' Level

Choo Mae Sann, SCGS

Chemistry had always been a daunting subject for me, until I started attending Wilson’s classes in Secondary 2. I never really understood Chemistry and was always falling behind in class. To make matters worse, the less I understood, the more my disdain towards Chemistry grew. Being very intimidated by the subject, I kept procrastinating studying and refused to touch Chemistry for fear that I wouldn’t understand anything. However, with Wilson’s quality notes and complete knowledge of the syllabus, coupled with his patience and endless encouragement, I practiced and studied more, gaining confidence and scoring better! Weekly classes with Wilson helped me as he very patiently broke down and simplified every topic for me, answering all my questions.  In addition, despite having to conduct lessons online due to the Circuit Breaker period in 2020, he always reached out and made sure that I understood every lesson. Wilson is a caring and passionate teacher, and I am very grateful for his help. Without his guidance, I would not have turned my E8 chemistry result at the end of Secondary 3 to an A2 for the “O” Levels! Thanks Wilson!!

I first started chemistry under Mr Wilson roughly around the mid of sec 3. My grades were terrible usually hanging around the F9 and I hated the subject, like what is so intriguing or fun about a couple of liquids that we hardly ever see?....or so I thought.  At the start, it wasn't easy as I struggled to build up my fundamentals from square one. No matter how many stupid questions I asked, Mr Wilson did not lose his patience (at least not directly at me) and explained in detail until I fully understood the question. I distinctly remember scoring a C5 for chemistry and felt really disappointed as I did not perform to my standards. However, he still told me that at least I had improved from an F9 and said we will get there. In lessons, important concepts are highlighted and noted down with interesting methods and acronyms to remember them. This made me become more interested in improving my chemistry as I finally saw it in a new light. When covid hit and circuit breaker lockdown occurred, Ace Brainery wasted no time in converting to online lessons. During that period with the aid of Wilson, I managed to clock in more practice on chem and I finally managed to score an A2 in my prelims and O levels. I always felt that tuition is a rigid thing only for studying and improving your grades but Mr Wilson was able to make me feel relaxed during lessons and would usually make small talk with me during lessons which has significantly lightened up my mood on several occasions. He not only made sure i was practicing chemistry but told me it was important to keep up with my other subjects, a very important thing I find not many tuition teachers remind their students about. I feel very comfortable with him and should I ever have a problem chemistry related or not, i would not hesitate to seek his advice and guidance. Chemistry is a daunting subject that is hard for many secondary students and a lot of times you may feel discouraged to even continue learning it. However, I would strongly recommend for you to give Ace Brainery a shot, as they are more than well equipped to push your chemistry to the next level. I promise you it is not a decision you will regret! :)

Upon failing chemistry in my mid year examinations when I was in secondary 3, I realised my chemistry needed desperate and immediate help as there was not much time left before my Os. This resulted in me asking multiple seniors for their help and advice to understand the multitude of unique concepts, but I just could not understand anything due to my weak foundation in the subject. After trying to improve my understanding of chemistry by myself for a few more months, I was honestly about to give up on the subject. It was then when one of my seniors introduced me to Wilson in Ace Brainery. Unwillingly, I decided to try out a lesson in his class and within that 2 hour lesson, I got a better understanding of a topic which I had been struggling on and learnt some things to look out for in the topic. This rapid improvement convinced me that my chemistry still had some hope despite it being my worst subject at the time, so i decided to continue on with the class.

Based on my experience in the class, I feel that Wilson’s teaching style is very different from any teacher that has taught me before. He involves everyone in the class without fail when teaching and the notes he gives are very concise and easy to understand. Whenever someone raises a question in or out of class, he will always respond as soon as he can and ensure they understand his explanation. Furthermore, I truly believe he is a very passionate teacher as he constantly goes the extra mile for the class. Some examples of this is how he would let students come 30 minutes before the class starts if they wanted to clarify anything with him in person and how he would host the lesson online and in person at the same time after the pandemic quarantine; this allowed students to attend the lesson at home if they could not attend it in person. Also, around the start of 2020, he noticed that I was quite a few topics behind the class since I joined rather late compared to the rest, so he decided to free up some of his own time to personally come down and give me extra tuition at my place for a few weeks. This allowed me to catch up to the class and not be completely lost when he goes through new topics.

I genuinely believe that I would not have been able to turn my F9 grade at the start of 2020 to an A1 grade for O levels without Wilson’s guidance. I am really grateful for his help and if anyone is struggling with chemistry, I would definitely recommend them to join Wilson’s class.

Wilson is an extremely encouraging and caring chemistry tutor that has helped me gain confidence and interest in chemistry. Ever since joining in Secondary 3, Wilson has been able to simplify many topics and has helped make learning chemistry more fun overall. Under his guidance and tutelage, he has helped me improve greatly! His patience and desire to help his students definitely shows in his way of teaching, and is an important factor that has helped me achieve my goals in the O level examinations :) I would definitely recommend Wilson to any students currently struggling in chemistry or looking for a way to improve.  Thank you Wilson!!

I joined Ace Brainery only a few months before my O Level exams, and Wilson miraculously managed to help me push my grades from a C6 to A1 within that short period of time! He is a very patient teacher who makes abstract chemistry concepts simple and easy to understand. I had been struggling with Chemistry for the majority of my upper secondary life, but with Wilson's help, the subject seemed to become much more manageable, simpler to understand and even fun. The tips and tricks that he provided to help us understand and memorise the concepts better gave me the confidence that I would be able to do well. He's a really great teacher and is very kind to students, and will continue to recommend Ace Brainery to my friends!

Before I enrolled in Ace Brainery, I recalled Chemistry being my most hated subject- it was content heavy and I faced difficulty in grasping the many complex concepts. I did not appreciate the subject, and I had zero to no motivation when it came down to revision. With this apathetic attitude, I found myself barely passing my tests and exams. I sought help from my teachers and my handy chemistry textbook, but to no avail. I first heard of Ace Brainery as my older sister was already enrolled in the centre. She felt that the classes were very useful, and she encouraged me to give it a shot. After some research and a long discussion with my parents, I met Wilson for my first class two weeks later.

At Ace Brainery, Wilson managed to clarify any doubts that I had in a straightforward manner as he was very clear and concise in explaining new concepts. He was able to identify and fill the gaps I had in my prior knowledge of the subject which allowed me to form a connection between the topics in my syllabus. Wilson’s kind nature alongside his lively personality allowed me to transit seamlessly into the class. With a fortified and now solid foundation in the subject, I was able to complete my assignments and revision papers with ease. After only four months of classes, I managed to attain a B4 in my preliminary examinations and an A2 in my O Levels, which was a tremendous improvement from a meagre F9.

Simply saying that Wilson is a great teacher would be an understatement. I strongly admire his dedication to Chemistry and his flair for teaching which creates a conducive environment where students are motivated to learn. If you are seeking good grades in Chemistry, do yourself a favour and enroll in Ace Brainery for it is a decision that you will not regret.

I joined Wilson’s chemistry class only a few months before my prelims and my O levels. As someone who hated chemistry, I had hardly any interest in this subject, and needless to say, did terribly in all my tests and examinations. However, after Wilson started teaching me, he helped to simplify many concepts to make them easier for me to understand. He had innovative ways of helping us remember things, through the use of many acronyms, which I can still remember up till this day. He helped me secure an A2 for my O level examinations, despite the fact that I barely passed my tests and prelims. He made me more confident in this subject, and helped me to appreciate Chemistry better. He was always very patient in explaining questions to us, and spurred us on till the very end. He has made me see Chemistry in a new light and I am thoroughly grateful for his help. :)

At the start of my Secondary 4 I can honestly say I was a consistent 39% for Chemistry and that's when I started desperately looking for a Chemistry tuition and I stumbled upon the very well known Wilson. Everyone was saying how good the tuition was so I thought why not give it a try. Within the first 4 months of tuition I ended up topping the class for Chemistry in all the tests. His friendly and caring way of teaching really motivated me to work a lot harder than I expected myself to. His surprise Liho during lessons was the best because it just helped us keep going. From never thinking I would even pass Chemistry to getting an A2 in O levels (which I screwed up ☹) I must say I could never have done it without this dude Wilson. I can safely say he is worth the hype.

Chemistry was always my weakest subject in secondary school and I honestly was expecting to fail it for the O levels. I joined Wilson’s lesson mid July in my Sec 4 year and it was just weeks before prelim. In that short intensive period, I managed to pull off my first ever chemistry pass during prelims and managed to get an A2 for the O-levels examination. In a short span of 5 months, Wilson has not only managed to pull my grades up through thorough explanations of concepts but has also inspired a deep interest of chemistry within me. His caring personality and eagerness to help (through the many many questions on text) really propelled me to do my best in chemistry. Even after Secondary school, chemistry still easily remains as my favourite subject and I only have Wilson to thank for sparking that love in me.

Throughout Secondary 3, I had been consistently getting Ds for Chemistry no matter how much I studied because I struggled fully understanding and grasping the complex concepts. After joining Ace Brainery in Secondary 4, I attained As for all my subsequent tests and exams. Wilson is a very kind, reassuring, dedicated, experienced and skilled teacher who wants the best for all his students. He made learning Chemistry easier and very enjoyable for me with all of his tips and detailed notes. Whenever I had doubts or misconceptions, he always patiently clarified them with me and gave clear explanations. His passion for Chemistry is one of the factors that motivated me to consistently revise and do well for my assessments. Gradually, I grew fond of Chemistry and it became my favourite subject too. I thoroughly enjoyed lessons with Wilson and highly recommend him to students who need help and want to excel in Chemistry!

I had 3 Chemistry tutors prior to taking my O level exams. Wilson was my third and last tutor and my search ended there, there was no need for anyone else.  Patient and familiar with the O level Chemistry syllabus, Wilson helped simplify many difficult concepts and its applications, which greatly boosted my confidence in the subject. In my 2 years with Wilson as my tutor, Chemistry was my strongest Science subject and I went on to score an A1 in the O level examinations. His tutelage has led me to pursue Chemistry as a HL subject in my IB diploma programme and I have found the good foundational knowledge Wilson laid for me in Secondary school very helpful even now. I am so grateful to Wilson for his guidance and for those times he cheered me on especially when I was feeling burnt out. Thank you Wilson.
