Before joining Ace Brainery, I struggled a lot with Chemistry and always scored a U/S in school exams. I got recommended to join Ace Brainery towards the end of JC1 and Desmond’s lessons helped me understand Chemistry concepts easily through his focus on memory work and drilling of tricky concepts. Chemistry has always been my weakest subject. I really struggled to score any better than an E grade in my first year in ACJC, and I actually failed the subject many times. During my JC1, I really struggled with my Chemistry as the concepts were too hard for me to grasp. In addition, there was also the lack of interest in Chemistry on my part. Hence, it was not unexpected that I got a U for my mid year exams. It was then that I decided to enrol in Ace Brainery after my Mum’s strong recommendation. After the first session, I discovered that Chemistry was actually not so hard after all! Desmond’s ability to explain concepts in a simple manner made it possible for me to appreciate the Chemistry concepts so much better. He is also a tutor with a vast and also impressive knowledge in the subject matter, which is not surprising since he got first class coupled with many years of experience under his belt. Addtionally, his occasional jokes in class always made lessons fun for me. I saw my grades quickly improving significantly, and I managed an eventual B for my JC1 EOY. In JC2, I discovered that he is truly a level above my school teachers and perhaps other tuition teachers as he gave us extremely helpful advice on exam techniques, which solved important issues like time management. I joined Ace Brainery after scoring a ‘U’ for my JC2 mid-year examinations. Then, my school teachers told me that my goal of obtaining an ‘A’ in Chemistry was near impossible, considering the number of lessons I’ve missed, but Mr Desmond never gave up on me. He remained extremely patient, retaught me everything from scratch, and kept pushing me towards my goal.

During lessons, Mr Desmond simplified the syllabus and ensured we fully understood the material. He highlighted the important details so we knew exactly what was required in the exams, and also provided us with shortcuts to memorising them. After class, Mr Desmond would stay back to answer all our questions, and even stayed up the night before our exams to answer the last minute questions we had in a panic.

I used to dread studying Chemistry but after joining Mr Desmond’s classes, I found myself looking forward to his weekly lessons. His commitment to his work and students is truly commendable and I highly recommend Ace Brainery to anyone looking for Chemistry tuition. Mr Tan is a brilliant teacher that is efficient and effective. He has the ability to filter for us the important and useful learning points. He also concisely points out all the important things in the exam papers to look out for. Mr Tan’s notes are very detailed with just the right amount of information to be used on the exam day itself. Towards the A Level exams, he created a schedule to guide us on the proper sequence to do our papers. Moreover, he goes through the papers in class with in-depth explanations. Personally, Mr Tan has also really helped me in terms of my confidence. Nearing the A Levels and also after my prelims that I did not do too well in, he took time out of the regular tuition sessions to assure me that my efforts were good enough, and also encouraged me to continue working hard. When I felt that all hope was lost, his words kept me going, and motivated me to continue striving. In the end, I managed to improve from an E in my prelims to an A in the A Levels. Desmond is the most dedicated tutor I've met in all my years of schooling. Since I’ve met him, he has far exceeded the role of a tutor and has filled the role of a mentor throughout my A levels journey. His commitment to nurturing his students’ academic growth shows clearly in his work ethic. Desmond never took more than a day to patiently answer my slew of panicked questions. Before I joined Ace Brainery, I had barely been scraping through my school examinations and often considered myself lucky when I passed. I found that my effort rarely translated to results because my study method had been extremely unfocused. Desmond was able to streamline my study method to increase my efficiency and I saw my results improve exponentially. During CT2s, I managed to scrape an S grade. In the short period of 2-3 months between CT2 and prelims, I managed to improve to a C grade. In the month between prelims and A levels, I managed to secure an A grade. The trait that made Desmond an exceptional mentor was the fact that he never gave up on any of his students - he genuinely believed that hard work would pay off. Although some may consider his efforts harsh, they were definitely effective. If he hadn’t been as strict as he was, I almost definitely would not have done as well. Before I started Chemistry lessons at Ace Brainery, I found it really difficult to understand the subject. It was really tough to keep up with my school’s lecture pace, and I was often clueless during my school’s tutorials. Through Desmond’s constant guidance and comprehensive notes, I was able to grasp the main concepts much more easily. He would also clear my doubts outside of tuition time every single time without fail, and even take the effort to explain them in great detail. Nearing our A levels, he also provides crash courses for us to attend. Each lesson covers a different topic, thus we were able to brush up on specific topics that we were weaker in, which made it very helpful. I started attending Desmond's Chemistry lessons mid-way through JC2, as he was very highly recommended. Before that, I didn’t have much interest in the subject and merely see it as a requirement. Desmond’s classes were super engaging and he kept everyone on their toes throughout the entire duration of his lessons. The questions he posed in class were good refreshers (although embarrassing at times if I answered wrongly, haha). He made me realise how important the basics were even at the JC level. Desmond somehow has enough time to mark all the papers he gives us for revision and answer every one of our questions outside of class, which really shows his dedication to helping his students improve. After a while, I started to become interested in Chemistry, and I even looked forward to the weekly lessons! Never once did I come out of class having not gained/learned something. My seniors introduced Ace Brainery to me during the mid of my JC1 when I was struggling with Chemistry. Within 2 months, my Chemistry grades improved from a D to B for my Mid Year Examinations. Desmond makes learning Chemistry very interesting, and his lessons also motivate me to do well. Furthermore, his interactive teaching style allows for me to actively participate in class and deepen my understanding in the subject matter. I joined Ace Brainery a few months before my GCE ‘A’ Levels. I had difficulties tackling basic questions that would have prevented me from even getting a B in my school exams. Desmond was easily able to identify issues that JC Chem students frequently have, and shared it with his students. He condensed the topics into easily understandable concepts by breaking them down and also introduced his own acronyms, revealed tricks to knowing what the question is asking for to make sure that we would be able to complete the paper in time with accuracy and precision. He did not only teach us to work hard, but also to work smart. I could notice myself improve significantly in the subject compared to the time before I joined Ace Brainery. Lessons were simple but effective. We had to jot down notes and answers in class, and were also able to ask questions in person and on WhatsApp. All these really helped to consolidate my knowledge in Chemistry, and piqued my interest in the subject, pushing my grades from a D in my J2 mid year exams to an eventual A in the A Level exams. Desmond is very understanding of the tight schedule students experience, and gives just the right amount of pressure and work to us. He also encourages and motivates his students. Interestingly, I was eventually no longer daunted by the subject, and in fact even started to like and enjoy it.
