GCE 'A' Level

Jarrett Lee Jun An, CJC

A man who stands by a principle of moral righteousness, what struck me the most was his willingness to accept students regardless of their financial background and compromising for those who may not be able to afford the full tuition fees. And that’s just scratching the surface. His fair treatment of every student no matter their level of chemistry depicts his aptitude for teaching, and he connects with students not only on a teaching level, but on a personal level as well. Being well versed with the chemistry syllabus is an understatement, for Desmond is someone who lives and breathes chemistry. His dedication to the subject and flair for teaching is evident in his teaching style, for he is able to filter out what’s important and what’s not, and come up with learning methods catered to the needs of his students. “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” The depth of a teacher is not by how much he teaches, but how much he is able to inspire. Desmond, thanks for being a teacher that inspires.

Desmond is a kind and caring teacher who’s committed to his students. I thoroughly enjoyed his classes and am grateful for all that he’s taught me! After going for his classes, I understood chemistry much better and developed a better appreciation for the subject. I would highly recommend Ace Brainery as a productive and conducive environment to learn.

Before attending classes at Ace Brainery, Chemistry was a subject which I really detested. I had zero interest in the subject. Ever since I started lessons with Wilson in Secondary 4, my attitude towards the subject changed for the better. Not only was he clear with his explanations, he was also able to inject fun into the subject through the occasional jokes. As much as it might sound less professional, I think that kind of style is really what makes the lessons more effective for most of the students. After I entered ACJC, I took H2 Chemistry and continued classes with Desmond. He was able to keep my Chemistry afloat for the entire year, whilst most of my friends struggled amidst the hectic JC curriculum. On top of all that, the tutors are very helpful and are willing to answer questions outside tuition time. From the perspective of the students, one can clearly see how they are interested in the welfare of each and every student.

To top it off, Bijay Naidu from ACJC (my elder brother) also took H2 Chemistry lessons with Desmond. He improved from 0.1 percentile at the end of JC1 to 84 percentile at the end of JC2, which is clearly the reason why my mum enrolled me with Ace Brainery.

I spent my life insisting on private tuition, since that appeared to be the obvious choice such that one can receive full attention from the tutor. However, I stand corrected after making the choice to attend Chemistry lessons at Ace Brainery. With a small group, the provision of a conducive learning environment has materialized. In addition, students are not afraid to raise questions in the middle of lessons as the teachers are open to questions and clarifications. The lessons are also very examination-oriented, with the teachers providing tricks and also accurate tips to ace the papers. The teaching of the topics is also very in-depth. In addition, the relationships between the teachers and their classes are strong, and will bear the fruit of whatever is necessary to score well.

I am truly grateful to have met a teacher like Desmond. Without him, Chemistry would’ve been a lot harder to grasp. Prior to joining Ace Brainery, Chemistry was a subject I hated and simply could not understand. However, under his guidance and encouragement, Chemistry became extremely enjoyable and the concepts were a lot easier to digest. Desmond always goes the extra mile for his students to make sure there are sufficient opportunities for them to learn and apply their skills. Using his methodology, I saw drastic improvement in all my other subjects as well. Above all, he is a genuine friend and mentor who has deeply impacted me and taught me much more than just Chemistry. Teachers like him are truly hard to come by!!!!!!
