After my O Levels with Wilson, I continued my lessons at Ace Brainery under Desmond. The jump from O Levels to IB Chemistry was indeed quite big, but Desmond made difficult concepts easy for me to digest. He caters to students of different learning paces in his classes, taking the time to ensure everyone follows the class. His lessons are carefully planned in order to cover the syllabus in time for our promos, prelims, etc.  Beyond Chemistry content, he prepares his students with exam tips and help outside of class time, speedily answering any questions over WhatsApp. Desmond is dependable and dedicated to his students, going the extra mile for us all. As a competitive swimmer, I had to travel often for overseas training camps and competitions. It was not a surprise that I was pretty behind schedule in my final IB final year due to many lessons missed in class and honestly, I had a lot to catch up for my HL Chemistry. I joined Ace Brainery at the end of year 5. I had been struggling to cope with both my CCA and my academics and ended up falling  rather behind my peers in chemistry. I had been looking around for tuitions, and people around me have been encouraging me to try out Ace Brainery. And I must say that it was the right decision to give them a shot! Desmond has a unique way of teaching that really piqued my interest in Chemistry. The best part is that he cares for each and every one of his students. He bothers to go out of his way to help me. I joined Ace Brainery after my secondary 4 mid year Chemistry exam which I failed. I started 1 on 1 lessons with Wilson who was extremely encouraging even though I really struggled to grasp the concepts initially. After only 2 months of lessons with him, my Chemistry grade jumped from a 3 to a 6.

In IB, I continued lessons at Ace Brainery under Desmond. His teaching was extremely helpful in bridging the gap between secondary and IB Chemistry, and keeping us on top of the curriculum for the entire of the 2 years. He taught us effective ways to learn the content, as well as efficient ways to tackle assessments - both of which played a large role in seeing me through my IB exams. I’m especially grateful that Desmond was always considerate of our busy schedules and gave us the bare minimum when it came to homework, and also for his patience in answering our many questions. He really made sure that we understood what we were learning and even took the time to schedule revision classes for us before our exams.

Chemistry has always been one of my weaker subjects in secondary school, but joining Ace Brainery has helped to greatly improve my understanding of the concepts. Desmond makes the lessons easy to follow and he has helped me to develop a good foundation in Chemistry, which definitely goes a long way when we have to learn the more complicated topics. His friendliness and patience creates an incredibly conducive and fun learning environment, where one is able to ask questions freely. He also gives really useful tips for exams that make exams a lot less stressful! After joining Ace, I happened to have a lot more time to focus on my other IB subjects too. Before joining Ace Brainery, Chemistry was my most feared subject as I found it very challenging to grasp the concepts. I am so thankful for Desmond because he miraculously makes these difficult concepts easy to understand and dramatically lowered the steep learning curve for me. Desmond’s notes are so clear that I always rely on my Ace Brainery notes, instead of the school’s notes. Desmond is also able to accurately spot questions, which is so helpful nearer to the examinations. Before I joined Ace Brainery, I was always behind in class and could not keep up with my peers. It is amazing that after attending the Ace Brainery crash courses and lessons, I was brought up to speed and could even excel in the subject. Desmond is not only an effective teacher, but also a caring one. As someone who was caught up with many commitments in school, I found myself falling behind in terms of content, especially for HL Chemistry. Luckily for me, a friend of mine referred me to Desmond. He really helped me to catch up on the Chemistry content in school, and to even learn ahead of the school syllabus eventually. Although Desmond seems a bit intimidating at the start, his teaching style is engaging, interactive and fun, which really helped me to focus during the lessons. He also provides many tips and tricks that helped me to remember certain key concepts during tests and exams. Outside of teaching, Desmond is also a down to earth, caring and understanding individual who you can definitely confide in when you are facing difficulties. When I first came to Ace Brainery in the middle of Y5, I had just taken my first exam and got 59%, a solid 5 points, one of the lowest in my class. I couldn't even understand the difference between an atom and an ion, let alone comprehend anything else I was learning in school. Desmond was not only extremely clear in explaining all the concepts to me, but he has a unique talent of making the most difficult concepts simple to understand - something I had never encountered in Chemistry before stepping into Ace for tuition. After gaining a new perspective about Chemistry, I began to love the subject so much more. Instead of feeling daunted by it, I was inspired to work harder for the subject. Not only did Chemistry become my favourite subject by the time I graduated from IB, but it also became my best subject. I managed to get 89% for IB which is a 7. Desmond was extremely patient in his teaching with a strong emphasis on really the most basic of the concepts.
